Detroit legend Marcellus Pittman and the iconic Calabrese this Friday in the Fifth Compartment

Updated: Mar 17

While other kids in the early 80s were playing with GI Joe action figures, Marcellus "Malik" Pittman was blasting his radio in Detroit , soaking up all sorts of sounds and influences. Little did anyone know that he would become one of the pillars of the Detroit sound.

On Friday, March 14th , he will be the new guest of Peto Kupe's great collaboration with Kasheme club, a unique place for audiophile connoisseurs in Zurich.

Pittman began his DJing journey at college parties, weddings, and receptions until he released his first work with the local hip-hop collective Home Grown in 1993. To this day, he has grown into an icon of the Detroit scene and a man whose sets are known for their eclecticism, depth, and infectious energy. Pittman is a house music pioneer and founder of the Unirhythm label, as well as a member of the 3 Chairs collective with legends Theo Parrish, Moodymann, and Rick Wilhite.

His unique style and ability to combine the incompatible are a guarantee of a top-notch musical experience. From Zurich, however, one of the more original actors of the scene will arrive that same evening – Kalabrese, DJ, producer, bandleader and co-owner of the legendary club Zukunft. Kalabrese is a bold musical force and a curious tastemaker who dares to tread murky waters to bring dance music in a distinctive and natural way.

The Zurich master will take us on a set inspired by imperfect rhythms that wander between indie-dance, disco, house and blues. Kalabrese leads the audience to a hypnotic dance that opens a window into a different, bright and always funky world.

The hosts of this musical treat will be Ilija Rudman and Antonio Zuza. Our two experienced DJs will warm up the atmosphere in the club with a b2b set, which will, as in the previous edition, appear in a different outfit modeled after the friendly Kasheme.
